****UPDATE****

On Thursday, December 15th, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued a warrant for Ethan A. Gauch, 18 of Hannibal. Gauch was charged with First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Property Damage, and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The charges stem from an incident that began on Wednesday at approximately 4:27pm. Officers were called to a disturbance in the 3500 block of Stardust Drive. Gauch was attempting to gain entry into an occupied vehicle by smashing the windshield and driver’s side window with a machete. The occupant was able to escape through the passenger side door and ran to an area business. Gauch began walking towards the area business and was confronted by officers. Gauch complied with officers’ commands and dropped the machete. He was taken into custody without incident. Gauch did not know the occupant of the vehicle who was not injured. Gauch is being held without bond and remains in the Marion County Jail.

****ORIGINAL****

On Wednesday at approximately 4:27pm officers were called to a disturbance in the 3500 block of Stardust Drive. It was reported that a male, armed with a machete, was attempting to gain entry into a vehicle that was occupied by one person. Officers encountered the male who was still armed with the machete. The male complied with the officer’s commands and was taken into custody without incident. The male was transported to the Marion County Jail pending formal charges. More information will be released at a later time.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
