S.T.A.R.T. / School Resource Officer

The Hannibal Police Department employs School Resource Officers within the Hannibal School District. School Resource officers deal with a wide variety of issues including safety and security. The School Resource Officers are available to interact with students to help foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Starting the 2023-2024 school year the Hannibal Police Department adopted the Substance Tobacco Alcohol Resistance Training (S.T.A.R.T.) curriculum. START is a substance abuse prevention curriculum geared to students in sixth grade. The course is  taught over nine weeks which includes topics such as tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs, bullying and cyberbullying, peer pressure, and citizenship. The course is taught by one of our School Resource Officers who has been trained specifically for the START program. The START program was created by St. Charles County Law Enforcement and educators who have greatly aided in bringing the START program to our community.

The START Motto:
“Start by saying NO!”
