38th Annual HPD Children’s Halloween Party (New location)
T he 38th Annual Children’s Halloween Party will be hosted at a different location than in previous years. Due to recent flooding at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center the decision was made a couple of weeks ago to seek an alternative location. After a brief search it was determined that the building formerly housing White Star Laundry located at 106 North 4th Street could be made available for hosting the party. Contact was made Larry Hodson with Big River Pest Control whose business had newly acquired the building and he graciously agreed to allow the use of the structure. “Since the set-up for the Halloween Party actually starts a week before Halloween we couldn’t risk waiting to see if the water at the Admiral Coontz Rec. Center went down in time. Plus there is a significant period of time needed for Parks and Rec. personnel to clean the building after having several inches of water inside for several days” stated Chief Lyndell Davis. “We average 800 to 900 children attending our Halloween Party typically and in addition their family members so we needed a large building plus this keeps us close to the Main Street event for Halloween. Both events complement each other.”
