On Thursday, August 6, at approximately 8:00pm officers with the Hannibal Police Department were requested to assist the Hannibal Fire Department with a fire investigation in the 4000 block of Cheyenne. While officers were en-route a call was received about a suspicious person in woods in the 300 block of Munger Lane. Officers located a tuck and Doolittle trailer parked in the woods off of Cheyenne. Seth P. Murphy, 38, and Betty A Knutter, 40 both of Canton IL, were contacted. Upon further investigation the truck had been reported stolen out of Coffee County Kansas and the trailer was stolen out of Schulyer County Missouri. Murphy and Knutter were taken into custody. Knutter had an outstanding warrant from Kansas for Distribution of a Controlled Substance. On Friday, August 7, a warrant was issued for Murphy charging him with Tampering with a Motor Vehicle First Degree. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. A search warrant was executed on the truck and trailer. Various items were seized and detectives are working with Kansas, Illinois, and other Missouri agencies to assist with their investigations and to return recovered property.
