The Hannibal Police Department has concluded the May 5th vehicle accident, occurring at 715 Ben Lomond, in which a 16 year old Hannibal youth was killed, appears to be accidental. The youth, identified as Austin S. Hampton, of Hannibal, was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle, which was not running. The vehicle apparently rolled out of the drive way and down a steep hill into a wooded area, striking several trees before coming to a rest. The victim was transported from the scene by Marion County Ambulance and taken to the Hannibal Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after.

On Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:17 pm, Officers of the Hannibal Police Department responded to the 700 block of Ben Lomond in reference to a one vehicle traffic crash with injuries. Upon arrival, Officers located a 2001 Saturn in the wooded area, east of the roadway. The vehicle had reportedly rolled away from a driveway. The lone passenger in the crash, a 16 year old Hannibal juvenile, was transported from the scene by Marion County Ambulance, and was taken to the Hannibal Regional Hospital. The juvenile was shortly after pronounced dead. Further details concerning the crash will be available when the traffic crash report and its investigation are complete.
