The Hannibal Police Department would like to inform the public of a telephone scam that has been occurring recently in the Hannibal area. According to reports, individuals will receive telephone calls from people stating they are from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The caller will tell the individual they owe the IRS back taxes and if they don’t make a payment over the phone, they will be arrested. The Hannibal Police Department wants to advise the public, if they receive this or any calls demanding payment over the telephone, to never give out any credit card, bank account or personal information. If you do receive any calls of this nature, contact your local law enforcement.
