At approximately 1:08 p.m. Tuesday afternoon the Hannibal Police Department received a report of a male subject wearing a dark coat and jeans walking toward the Hannibal Middle School with what was believed to be a handgun. A Hannibal officer arrived on scene within two minutes of being dispatched and observed the subject matching the description walking in the rear parking lot of the Hannibal Middle School. The officer attempted to make contact with the subject. The subject became verbally confrontational and fled on foot. The officer pursued the subject through the Catholic Cemetery and continued the pursuit onto the Park United Methodist Church parking lot where the officer lost sight of the subject.  Shortly later officers received information an unknown subject had been observed entering an unsecured rear door of the YMCA.  Numerous officers who had responded to the area quickly encircled the YMCA property and found the subject hiding in a small room in the YMCA.  The subject found at the YMCA matched the description of the individual the Hannibal officer had been pursing and was taken into custody.  The subject was later identified as Richard King, 22, of Hannibal.  King was found to have an outstanding warrant for a parole violation and was placed on a 24 hour hold for other charges related to the incident. Hannibal School officials were notified by the Hannibal Police Department School Resource Officer of the developing situation early on so that the Hannibal High and Middle Schools could be placed on lock down.  No injuries were reported during the incident.
