Subject Arrested After Punching Police Officer

On Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 a warrant was issued in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County charging Danny Mah (39) of Hannibal with assault 3rd degree special victim (law enforcement), assault 4th degree, and stealing. The charges are a result of an incident which occurred on Tuesday at approximately 08:12am at a business at 202 Steamboat Bend Shopping Center. An officer was inside a business when Mah was observed acting suspiciously possibly concealing items. When confronted Mah was found to have items from the store concealed upon his person. Mah attempted to leave the store when the officer tried to physically restrain him. Mah punched the officer in the head and fled out of the store into the parking lot. As Mah fled he also stuck an employee of the business as he was attempting to flee with the stolen items. The officer was able catch up to Mah in the parking lot where he continued to resist and attempt to assault the officer further. Mah was taken to the ground when an employee noticed what appeared to be a handgun on his person. The Officer requested assistance from the employee to prevent Mah from being able to access the weapon. A short time later other officers arrived on scene and were able to secure Mah. Officers learned the weapon was a realistic looking pellet gun, not a firearm. Mah was found to have an active parole warrant for his arrest and was transported to the Marion County Jail on the warrant, and the new charges. Mah remains in custody on a $50,000 cash only bond on the assault and stealing charges and is being held without bond on the parole violation. The officer was treated for their injuries and returned to work the same day.

The Hannibal Police Department would like to thank the employees of the store who were able to contact 911 and assist the officer in dealing with a potentially dangerous situation. We are proud to work in a community that supports their law enforcement officers.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
