At approximately 6:23 p.m. Friday night, Officers of the Hannibal Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of Lake Apollo for a report of a stolen car. While in route to the area, an officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car. When the officer turned around to stop the vehicle, it pulled into the rear parking lot of the Huck Finn Shopping Center. The driver and passenger both fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the driver, a 15 year old male of Hannibal, was apprehended without incident. The juvenile was charged with Tampering 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest and Felony Theft. The passenger, a 16 year old male of Hannibal, later came to the police department with a parent and turned himself in. He was charged with Tampering 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Felony Theft. Both suspects were released to their parents by the Juvenile Justice Center. “Thefts of vehicles and thefts of items from vehicles can greatly be deterred, in most cases, by removing the car keys and locking your vehicle.” stated Lt. Zerbonia.
