On Thursday, (October 6th) afternoon an employee of a local lending business in the Huck Finn Shopping Center, reported a male subject threatened her with a knife after she refused him a loan. The subject then left the area before officers arrived. After a short search of the area the suspect, 33 year old Phillip B. Smashey, of Hannibal, was located at his residence on Surrey Hills and arrested. Smashey was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. A warrant was later issued charging Smashey with a Class D Felony of Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Bond was set at $25,000.00 cash only.  No one was injured in the incident.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
