On Sunday, 09/14/2014 an officer the Hannibal Police Department was assaulted while investigating a report of theft. The officer was dispatched to the 1700 block of S. Arch St in reference to a stolen phone and given a description of the suspect. When the officer arrived in the area, he attempted to contact18 year old Breanna M. Sparks, of Hannibal, who matched the suspect’s description. Sparks fled on foot and after a short pursuit was apprehended by the officer. Sparks then struck the officer several times in an attempt to get away. Sparks was placed under control and arrested for Theft, Property Damage, Resisting Arrest and Assault on Law Enforcement Officer. Sparks was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. The officer received minor injuries requiring no medical attention.
