 Hannibal Man Arrested for Stalking

On Wednesday, September 14, 2022 two warrants were issued in the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion charging James W Pitney (56) of Hannibal, with one count of stalking, and another with stalking and resisting arrest. The warrants were a result of an incident which occurred on Palmyra Road on Tuesday, September 13th. On Tuesday at approximately 1:00pm officers were traveling on Palmyra Road when they encountered Pitney traveling at a slow rate of speed. A female was observed walking in the area and officers made contact and learned Pitney had been following her as she was walking, even driving upon the sidewalk. Officers located Pitney in Hannibal Middle School parking lot where he attempted to drive away. Officers had to remove the keys to prevent Pitney from fleeing. Pitney would not exit the vehicle and had to be removed by officers. Pitney was arrested and issued citations for driving while intoxicated, open liquor, and no proof of insurance. Pitney was placed on a 24 hour hold for stalking and resisting arrest. Pitney remains in the Marion County Jail with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety on each warrant making total bond $50,000 cash or surety.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
