The Hannibal Police Department would like to inform the community of a computer scam, masquerading as an e-mail from a friend, in need of financial assistance. The email states that the person is on a trip over seas and has had their wallet or purse stolen. The email states they have been issued temporary passports and a new airline ticket, but they need funds to pay for outstanding bills. The e-mail requests the victim to send personal information or call an overseas telephone number. If you receive one of these emails, please delete it without responding. The Hannibal Police Department would also like to remind everyone to not give personal or bank account information to anyone over the internet or telephone or to send cash, checks or credit card information in response to any letters they receive in the mail. Especially if the e-mails or letters are unsolicited by you.
