A suspect identified as Carl S. Goldberg, 29, formerly of Hannibal now residing in the Las Vegas, Nevada area was taken into custody Wednesday October 14th by U.S. Marshals in the metro Las Vegas, Nevada area.  Hannibal police detectives had requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service on October 7th when they determined Carl. S. Goldberg as a “Person of Interest” in the investigation into the homicide of Carl A. Maxwell of Hannibal.  On October 14th HPD detectives were notified by the U.S. Marshals Service that Goldberg was taken into custody in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.  Two HPD detectives were sent to Las Vegas on October 15th and interviewed Goldberg.  After the interview with Goldberg HPD detectives declared Goldberg as their primary suspect in the homicide of Carl A. Maxwell.  Carl S. Goldberg was identified as a son of Maxwell’s.

The deceased male found at 2034 Broadway has been identified as Carl A. Maxwell, 84, of Hannibal.  It appears from the homicide investigation thus far that the death of Maxwell occurred months prior to law enforcement being notified.  A person of interest has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.  Further developments regarding this investigation will be released at a later date.

The investigation into the deceased male found at a residence at 2034 Broadway is being handled as a homicide.  The victim is described as an elderly man but his identity is being withheld until family confirmation is achieved or if necessary done so by forensic means.  The evidence gathered thus far suggests this is an isolated incident and does not pose a threat to the community at large.  This investigation is ongoing and information regarding this incident will be released as deemed appropriate.

Officers were called to 2034 Broadway at 2:57 pm to investigate the discovery of a deceased adult male found in the residence. The residence was believed to have been a vacant property prior to the discovery of the deceased.  The investigation is in the initial stages so further information regarding this incident will be released at a later date.
