Community Service Officers Cleanup Creek
Community Service Officers (CSO) of the Hannibal Police Department have had their essential duties expanded more than once over the last several years. In 2014 their duties were expanded to include enforcement of property maintenance issues. The latest expansion of their duties occurred in 2017 when patrolling of the various municipal parks with emphasis on Sodalis and Riverview Park was added. Their park duties not only include enforcing park rules, providing assistance to the public but cleaning up trash and debris when practical both on land and in the creeks/streams.
On June 14th two of the three CSO worked on removing debris from Bear Creek between the Ely Street bridge to South Main. They were able to remove 212 pounds of trash and junk discarded in the waterway. They will perform this service periodically when the weather and water levels permit it to be done safely.
CSO’s duties range from animal control/welfare, property maintenance and park patrol.
