Auto Theft Suspect Arrested

Update 1

 

On Friday, five warrants were filed in the Associate Circuit Court of Marion County charging Martin with the following:

 

  • Stealing a Firearm                                           Class D Felony            $25,000 cash only

 

  • Tampering with a Motor Vehicle                    Class D Felony            $25,000 cash only
  • Resisting with an Arrest for a Felony             Class E Felony
  • Resisting Arrest Creating Risk of Injury        Class E Felony

 

  • Tampering with a Motor Vehicle                    Class D Felony            $25,000 cash only
  • Stealing a Motor Vehicle                                Class D Felony

 

  • Resisting with an Arrest for a Felony             Class E Felony            $25,000 cash only

 

  • Tampering with a Motor Vehicle                    Class D Felony            $25,000 cash only

 

The total bond on the five warrants is $125,000 cash only. Martin remains in custody at the Marion County Jail.

Auto Theft Suspect Arrested

On Friday, February 21, 2020 at approximately 6:10 a.m. officers received a tip of a stolen vehicle from Quincy Illinois was at Casey’s 4215 McMasters Avenue,. After officers arrived the suspect, Steven L. Martin, 19 of Hannibal, drove backwards into a patrol car then drove forward onto the sidewalk  in front of Casey’s striking another vehicle and traveled South on US 61.  Martin then turned onto Geronimo Ave. and struck a vehicle near the stop sign. He exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward the Marsh Ave. area.  Officers pursued Martin and after a lengthy search he was observed in the 3900 block of McMasters Ave. and fled from them again but was eventually apprehended on Arapaho St.  He was initially transported to the Hannibal Police Department and shortly thereafter was taken to the Marion County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending issuance of arrest warrants. No citizens or officers were injured during the incident.
