Atoka St. Standoff

On Friday, December 13th, 2024, at 11:42am Officers with the Hannibal Police Department responded to an address in the 3600 block of Atoka. Officers had received information that Christopher L McGruder (39) of Hannibal, was currently inside a residence at this location. McGruder was wanted on a felony warrant out of Lewis County Missouri, and it was believed he could be armed with a firearm. Upon arrival, a Hannibal Officer observed McGruder as he went back inside the residence. Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and the Hannibal Special Response Team was activated, along with a negotiator. After a two-hour standoff, the Hannibal Police Negotiator was able to make contact with McGruder and facilitate the peaceful surrender. McGruder was transported to the Marion County Jail and is being held without bond on the following Lewis County Charges:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Harassment 1st Degree
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon (exhibiting)
  • Parental Kidnapping
  • Domestic Assault (4th Degree)

The Hannibal Police Department was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Northeast Missouri Drug Task Force, Missouri State Fire Marshall, Marion County Ambulance, and the Hannibal Fire Department.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
