Saturday night an Officer of the Hannibal Police Department was patrolling Lyon St when he saw smoke coming from a garage in the 1100 block of Lyon St. As the officer approached the garage to investigate, he could smell a strong chemical odor and saw a male subject exited the garage and run from the scene. Other officers were notified and the subject was apprehended a short distance from the garage. Officers then donned protective respirators and entered the garage where they located several chemicals and equipment commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. The male subject, identified as 28 year old Eric M. Tatman, of Hannibal, was arrested and charged with Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, Interfering/Resisting Arrest and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Also arrested was the occupant of the residence, 28 year old Ashley R. Williams of Hannibal, Williams was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Williams was released with a summons. Tatman was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. The investigation is still underway and more arrests are pending.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
