A warrant was issued July 8th, by the Circuit Court of Marion County, charging Nicholas D Mitchell, 29 of Hannibal, with Felony Animal Abuse. After reviewing the investigative report, Marion County Prosecutor, David Clayton, stated, “Animal abuse of any type will not be tolerated. My office will continue to work closely with the Hannibal Police Dept. We are both taking the matter very seriously”. Mitchell turned himself in to Hannibal officers Saturday, July 7th, and was placed on a 24 hour hold. Mitchells bond is set at $25,000.00 and remains in the Marion County Jail.

The Hannibal Police Department is seeking the assistance from the public in help to  identify the individual (s) involved in animal abuse/cruelty case.  Police were called to  the 2900 block of Market Street, reference to a cat shot with an arrow and numerous other visible wounds.  The cat is currently being treated by a local veterinarian, and its prognosis isn’t available at this time. The City of Hannibal takes cases such as these very seriously. Community Service Officers (CSO) are seeking information from the public in regard to anyone that has information regarding the incident.
