On Sunday, February 9th, the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County charged David J. Jones, 45 of Hannibal, with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest. The charges stem from an incident that began on Saturday, February 8th, at approximately 4:06 p.m. Officers were called to the Probation and Parole Office in the 2000 block of Warren Barrett Drive for a disturbance. Jones was in the lobby armed with a knife and appeared to be under the influence. Officers remained outside and ordered Jones to exit the building utilizing the PA system from a patrol vehicle. As Jones exited he retrieved a knife from the pocket of his clothing and began to approach officers with knife in hand. Officers were able to maintain a safe distance from Jones. He complied with officer’s commands and dropped the knife. Jones then grabbed the knife again and began acting erratic. Officers gave Jones commands again to drop the knife which he complied. Jones was taken into custody without further incident. Jones remains in the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $7,500.00 cash or surety.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
