On Tuesday 3/14/2017 at 6:46pm, a Hannibal police officer assigned to the anti-crime enforcement squad (ACES), conducted a traffic stop on US 61 at Diamond Blvd for an equipment violation. The vehicle failed to yield initially and stopped at a business on Diamond Blvd. While the officer was awaiting backup the vehicle fled on Diamond and crashed near the Huck Finn Shopping Center. The driver, Jaryd Gibbons (27) of Timewell Illinois, fled on foot and was apprehended nearby. Gibbons was found to have ammunition on his person and a subsequent search located a loaded handgun near the vehicle. Gibbons was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and resisting arrest. Gibbons was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. One of the occupants, Cartez Marion (25) of Hannibal, was arrested on an outstanding Marion County warrant and released to their custody. A female occupant, Thea Robbearts (25) of Hannibal, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. Robbearts sustained minor injuries as a result of the traffic accident and was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital by the Marion County Ambulance. The Hannibal Police Department was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Hannibal Fire Department, and the Marion County Ambulance.
