As was reported by the Hannibal School Administration, officers with the Hannibal Police Department (HPD) placed (3) male juveniles in custody on Tuesday (January 26th) for their alleged involvement with potential threats to students and school personnel. The juveniles taken into custody ranged from 13 to 14 years of age.  A Hannibal officer assigned as a School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified on Tuesday morning by school administrators of information regarding the potential threats and started an investigation immediately which ultimately led to the juveniles being placed in custody. The juveniles involved were released to the custody of the 10th Circuit Juvenile Justice Office.  “It would appear from the initial findings in the investigation that the threat was just in the early stages of planning and not going to be carried out immediately” stated Chief Lyndell Davis. “The school officials made one of our HPD School Officers aware and swift action was taken to address the issue. Our agency and the Hannibal School District take these situations very seriously and is one of the reasons we have a partnership with the Hannibal School District to station two Hannibal Police Officers full-time at our Hannibal High School and Middle School Campuses”.
