On Sunday (03/22) afternoon, officers of the Hannibal Police Department responded to a report of a burglary in the 4000 block of Cheyenne Ave. At 12:14 p.m. officers were advised residents on Cheyenne Ave had returned home from church and found Jeramie G. Charlton, 22, of Hannibal, removing items from their other vehicle. After being discovered, Charlton attempted to leave the area on foot. When confronted by the residents, Charlton pulled a knife and came at them threatening to harm them. One of the home owners, feeling threatened, then pulled his concealed pistol. Although he continued to verbally threaten the home owners, Charlton walked away after seeing the weapon. A short time later, officers located Charlton in a wooded area and took him into custody without incident. Officers also located several items Charlton had removed from the home owners’ property. Charlton was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault 2nd Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Charlton was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail, pending warrants.
