The Department has had an increase in volunteers from the community to assist in D.A.R.E. functions. Without these dedicated people we would not be able to put on the programs we have today. We encourage anyone to volunteer. It has been very rewarding for parents and friends to get involved in D.A.R.E.
Cpl. Brian Allen (newly certified D.A.R.E.
Instructor in 2006) would like to thank the parents,
teachers, school administrators, and community for their continued support
of the D.A.R.E. program.
During
the 2000-2001 school year, the Hannibal Courier Post along with KHMO/KICK
FM ran a fund raiser for the DARE Program to purchase a truck. Pictured left
is the 2001 Dodge Dakota Extended Cab Pickup. In the
background is the mighty Mississippi River located at the riverfront
in Hannibal. The people
of the community showed their support by sending funds in to help purchase
the truck. Sign Pro in Quincy provided the graphics. The DARE program already
had most of the money necessary from previous fund raisers. With the help
of the community's support, we now have a very needed and useful tool for
the program.
Along with the community support, the graduating DARE students who wished to participate in helping purchase the truck got an added bonus. Their names now appear on the back of the truck's tailgate to show our appreciation. Check it out sometime when you see it going by!
