Citizens Academy 2010
The Hannibal Police Department hosted a Citizens Academy starting in March of 2010 and ending in April of 2010. The emphasis was on what it is like to be a police officer with practical (hands-on) activities.
Topics covered were:
- March 4 Introduction/Tour/Program Overview/Vehicles/Bikes/Motorcycle
- March 11 Technology Night (Red-light Cameras, CVSA, In-car video, Live-Scan and Data Master)
- March 18 Weapons Night (Taser, Bean Bag Shotgun, Flash-bangs/gas munitions, assault rifle, duty weapon, baton and sniper rifle)
- March 25 Practical Exercises Night # 1 (Traffic stops, suspicious subjects, mental disorders, citizen contacts, etc...)
- April 8 Practical Exercises Night # 2 (Burglary in-progress, Domestic violence, robbery etc...)
- April 15 Legal System Overview (Arrest, 24-hour hold, warrants, Investigations, Prosecutions, Court process, etc...)
- April 22 Graduation night and group photo
The times for each night were Thursdays from 6:30 P.M. to approximately 9:00P.M.
We will continue accepting applications which can be downloaded here. Applications will be kept and participants will be notified when the next Academy is to be scheduled. You may also pick up an application at the front desk of the department. Seating is limited so first come-first serve. Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Minimum Age:18
- Not be a convicted felon or have conduct of an immoral/illegal nature (to be determined by a criminal history check based on fingerprinting and local records check)
